Snowed In!

We got the predicted 8" of snow, so I am pretty much snowed in for several days! Rex made it into work this morning (nothing stops that man from doing his job) but tomorrow might be a little bit more treacherous. There are plenty of groceries and sewing supplies in the house, so except that I can't quit looking out the window and admiring the snow, I might have a productive week. So, in celebration of snow, let's have a free giveaway!

Leave a comment on this blog, telling me what you would like to do if you were snowed in for several day. It does not have to be sewing! Believe it or not, I have other things I am looking forward to doing like playing with my camera. The giveaway will end Wednesday night at midnight when I will randomly draw 2 names from the comments. Each winner will win a free copy of the new "Beginner Smocking Book!"

Hi Michie! so glad you are enjoying the snow in your part of town! It is beautiful here. I love to read on a snowy day cook a big pot of soup and a pan of cornbread. And now with grandsons, I love to watch them play in the snow!

Living in the Chicago area, I have been snowed in! The winter after I was born we had the blizzard of 1967 so I guess by now I am used to it. Aside from sitting by the fire with some stitching, it would definiteley mean some comfort food cooking. Soup, stew, chili, maybe a nice roast. Some cookies to go along with the hot cocoa would also be on the to do list!

Good Afternoon! I am in Nashville and we are snowed in too...expecting more tonight! :) I want to work on cleaning out my sewing space and play some board games with my kids. I love to look at the snow...not get out in it so I wil be making hot cocoa while they are out playing...I am armed with lots of marshmallows!

Being snowed in happens alot in N.W PA. but you always plan for the event! Either you love getting right out in it and all the shoveling and plowing or you enjoy the beauty from inside your warm home. I'll take the inside choice by watching the snow fall on the pines, reading a sewing article, working on a sewing project or even cleaning out a closet. A snow event makes the world slow down abit! GOOD

If snowed in I would be by the fire with UFO's and the new Smocking by Miche book !

Maryland has snow predicted for tomorrow - fingers crossed!

I am in NC watching BIG flakes come down. Cold, snowy days bring 2 things to mind- hearty food and handwork. I'm going to make a big pot of meatballs and sauce for the family. I drew off the front of a daygown and have my embroidery all marked off. I'll get the pot going so the house smells good and then climb in the chair and stitch. Off to get going.

No school due to ice in central Alabama today, so I'm reading and learning to use a serger. Wish me luck with that and hoping to win a book.

I would love to be snowed in right now! I would put on a pot of soup for dinner, probably spend a good part of the day just looking at it, maybe even venture out with the kids to make a snowman and have cocoa when we all came in. Then-head to the sewing room for a cozy afternoon. One problem though-no windows down there :-( So maybe I would bring some handwork upstairs-hm, I need that book!

WOW!!! I would love to be snowed in just so I can sew all day!!! I would turn the radio on low, brew a pot of coffee, put some chili in the crockpot for supper and have my own little world of creativity! Doesn't happen often, so a snow day would be great!!!!

The snow is expected here in Rhode Island by tomorrow night (Tuesday)! On snowy days I love to get much needed sewing done, some cleaning, maybe read a bit of my recent novel, and finish the day with some delicious comfort foods like stew!

I am loving being snowed in today as well! My snow day has been playing in the yard with my 18 month old, followed by an afternoon of sewing for my new daughter that will be here in 7 weeks!

When we are snowed in I like to bake a Turkey... good for a couple of dinners plus hot soup. We are suppose to get an inch tomorrow afternoon...not enough to snow us in though. :-(
If we do get snowed in soon, on my list of "to dos".... sew, bake cookies with the kids, and clean a closet or two.

We have around 7-8 inches here in SE Tennessee, too! I've already been out taking pictures. Right now I'm taking a break from cleaning stuff my daughter left in my sewing room when she got married and left home - over 4 years ago. It's about time! Thinking about putting a big pot of soup or a roast on for supper! Kind of hoping for another inch or two tonight so I won't have to work tomorrow either!

I love the slowed pace and the extra family time a snow brings! We're in the Carolinas, and I'm enjoying my dream snowbound day. Went walking in the snow with the fam to Nana and Papa's house, who live two blocks over. Made snow angels. Eating chili and cinnamon rolls. Drinking apple cider. Building puzzles and stealing a few more moments to smock. All beside a roaring fire. I think we'll spend the night! :)

We're snowed in as well. I love to spend a quiet day and evening with hubby listening to pretty music, chili on the stove, bread baking in the breadmaker. I usually spend time doing handwork - mostly smocking. :)

If I were snowed in, I may just decide to stay in my jammies all day. Probably would call a few friends who live far away. And the greatest of all would be humming along from one sewing project to another. I would be thrilled with the book.

I'd spend the day in my sewing room, and / or sitting by the fire. We should get snow in Michigan tomorrow, but not enough to sew us in.

I don't know if you are aware but your post about the new smocking book is not showing up on your blog.

Thanks for the chance to win!

Sewing, reading, and baking definitely top my list for cozy at-home activities. (Of course, I always hope the electricity stays on when I'm snowed in, lol. Going without power definitely decreases the possible activities and the enjoyability factor.)

Hi Michie!
I was shocked to see you had so much snow...we got a little snow here in south Atlanta but then it turned to freezing rain! It's not so pretty unfortunately. Sounds like a plan to be "sewed in"....I really like to have lots of natural light to smock...but when it's this cold, I'm looking for a quilt to put on my quilt frame. I'm less picky about my quilting stitches....LOL.

If I were snowed in, I would bake some bread and put a stew in the slow cooker. Then I would probably read by the big window in our living room, and if it wasn't snowing TOO much, I would go for a walk along the river not far from our house.

I have had a little practice today, we have about 4 inches here in Hayden, Alabama. So I slept in, played with our doggy, cooked breakfast for Poppie and I. Then I traced a pattern cut out a pair of pants, and fought with my serger! The light bulb is blown and I can't get it out. Dreamed about spring sewing, and got out a bishop that I started over 4 years ago to finish smocking for youngest granddaughter. Tomorrow I plan to do more of the same, except not fighting with sewing equipment.

So excited fir your snow! We may get snow tomorrow and I HOPE we will be snowed in! If so, I'll finish my spring cleaning (I started early this year and only have one more room to finish!) and then bake cookies for the children. I have a million sewing projects, but if we are snowed in, they will have to wait so we can just have fun tomorrow (after the cleaning, that is!!)!

Thanks for the blog post and chance to win!

We haven't gotten the 8" you have but we are due for 5-6" between today and tomorrow. Living in the midwest we don't have many snowdays - especially in the larger towns. The smaller towns delay school but most will continue as usual.

I like to sit with a pot of coffee, my knitting or a book and look out the window - just to make sure the snow is still falling! A pot of soup and a second pot of coffee are the best companions. Not to mention the homemade bread or rolls I like to bake on cold days. Enjoy your snow days.

Oh...how I would love to be snowed in. I would put dinner in the crockpot and spend the entire day reorganizing my sewing/craft room. If the power is on.....watch movies with the family, cook some delicious soup, and read a book I can dig into. If I get a serge of energy, then clean out a closet or a room that I've been putting off. I almost rearranged my sewing room yesterday, but got distracted by the Auburn/Oregon football game! And lastly, do some handsewing by a bright window and watch the snow fall, with a fire in the fireplace.

I'm sewing and trying to finish an outfit for my granddaughter. I stocked up on supplies for the week as they said we would have ice, but we didn't. I love homemade soups and chili when it's this cold. I do have some other projects to work on so I will stay busy for sure.

I've been snowed in before and I always have lots to choose from. Sometimes it is smocking or sewing. But other times I will spend some time reading a good book with a pot of tea or hot cocoa, yumm. Sometimes I will pop in an old movie and settle to watch. Most times I like to being doing something useful with my hands. I'm excited that your book is published. It looks like it's going to be a great one for teaching smocking. I can't wait to get my own copy.

Hi Michie glad you got snow and are enjoying it. We very rarely have that joy so if we did get snow I would go over to my daughter's house and sled down her hill with my grandchildren. A snow day is not an unusual event here in New England. Being without school aged children any longer, I love to sew on a snowy day. Today I am going to work on a jacket for me, while my batiste is washing. I'll be cutting out a bishop - from your pattern, of course, and get it ready for smocking. Then a nice little nap while tucked up under my little throw will round out the afternoon.

Being snowed in sounds romantic and cozy. I doubt that will ever happen here in Phoenix! Before retirement I worked for a national company. Once the employee newsletter had an article with suggesttions for what to do on a snow day. Snow day? Other people got snow days? Why can't people here in Arizona get "heat days" when it's just too hot to go out?
If I were snowed in somewhere I'd build a fire, put some soup on the stove, and curl up with a book and an afghan.
