Peter Rabbit

I've always been a fan of Peter Rabbit.  Must be something about getting into trouble and being rescued in the end that speaks to all of us. :)  Here is a little something to keep you inspired for Easter sewing!

This sweet little outfit appeared in Sew Beautiful Magazine issue #113 in 2007.  The outfit was made out of light blue cotton chambray and white handkerchief linen, using pattern #113.  The embroidery design was adapted from Creative Needle Magazine (Nov/Dec 2003 issue).

More Yellow And White!

Another yellow and white Easter outfit for a little inspiration.  Pattern #113 was made out of yellow pique' and white Imperial Batiste.  Shadow embroidery stitches were used for the Easter basket and bunny on the collar. The embroidery designs for both are included in the pattern or the "Heirloom Embroidery Book."

White rick rack was stitched to the collar edge after the collar was constructed using yellow DMC floss.

Since this outfit reminds me of one my boys wore 30 years ago, I guess we can call it a classic!  :)

Yellow And White For Spring

I tend to get a little tired of blue on the boys, so how about yellow for Spring?  This outfit made by pattern #103, appeared in an issue of Creative Needle Magazine several years ago.  I love the yellow and white combination on this blond headed little guy.  A simple pattern if you are running out of time and the pattern is knicker length if you are needing something for cool Easter weather.

A Bunny Bishop For Easter

Surprise!  I have the Easter dress ready ahead of schedule!  Last year I was sewing at the last minute and did not care for the feeling at all, but sometimes life just gets complicated.

The bishop style dress is made out of pale blue Imperial Broadcloth so that little or no ironing is needed.

The smocking design is out of an old Creative Needle Magazine Feb. 2008.  Cute little bunnies that I have been saving for years waiting for just the right little girl.

The sleeves are edged with French lace and smocked with a simple geometric pattern.

And here is one of my little secrets..... our girl is very hard on hems so they are all stitched on the sewing machine!  Although it goes against my entire sewing background, mommy is a lot more relaxed and can let her play.  For this dress, after the hem was stitched in I did a running stitch by hand using 2 strands of DMC floss right on top of the stitching to add some color.

Do you have a sewing rule that you break to keep things simple?

Loop Tape Tutorial

For quick and easy loops for a bishop I sometimes use purchased bridal loop tape.  The loops are a sturdy elastic, but are too close together.

Before stitching the placket in place, I baste the loop tape in place, stitching down every other loop so that they will be caught in the seam.  Stitch the placket following the pattern directions and you have perfectly spaced loops for the buttons.

I'll share the details for this Easter bunny bishop on the next blog!

Easter/Dedication Bubble

Made by pattern #104, this outfit is dressy for Easter or for a baby dedication.

The bubble is designed with an overlay where you can be creative with embroidery or in this case, tiny tucks and a little lace.

White pima cotton and ecru lace gives it a vintage look.  The pattern also includes a dress version that I have especially enjoyed for our little one.
