Horitzontal Stripes.

When laying out a pattern, the grain of the fabric will have the stripes running up and down. While in an upscale boutique I spotted the stripes on the yoke running horizontal.  My first thought was, "That is wrong."  My second thought was, "That is different, and I like it!"  It just added a little interest to the garment and might come in handy when you are running short on fabric.

Are you a rule breaker when you sew?

Such a sweet idea! I too have seen stripes treated this way. I would do it! It draws attention to the sweet smocking design.

I am not a rule breaker. I would like to be, I guess it was the way I was raised. My mother was known for how well she could follow directions on patterns or anything for that matter. She passed that down to me. When I am cooking or sewing I follow to the letter the directions. I really wish I could loosen up and not be so strict.

I'm not a rule breaker by nature, but am trying more and more to be one! Thanks for sharing this darling little garment, and for the idea to break the rules this way : ). This is such a small thing, but changing direction of the stripes really adds a lot of interest.
