The Christmas Dress Rerun

Sometimes you just get extremely lucky and the dress that was a little big last year works this year with a major hem let down!  We are going to pretend that the sleeves were intended to be 3/4" length and with a white sweater, she is ready for a Christmas party. Click here for the free smocking design.

I used to do the same thing with my little girl (who is now 27 :( ). A smocked dress takes a lot of time, work and love to just wear for one season. The dress is beautiful. Have a Blessed Christmas!

So sweet! I was very surprised when I discovered that last year's bishop made for a very chubby 10 month old will fit a somewhat less chubby 22 month old this year if just let the hem all the way out. Such neat feature of bishops and one this busy mama appreciates! I hope you are enjoying a wonderful Advent and wishe you a merry Christmas!

Such a sweet bishop! I hope mine will still fit next year. Hate to make these and they only get worn once or twice. Trying to acces your free pattern for this one but its not working please help! I love the simplicity of it and it could work for other dresses also!!

I always loved this very thing when I was smocking for my daughter almost 30 years ago. Living in Texas, I always made a lot more short sleeved dresses. When she was a baby and I first learned to smock I discovered Bishops with angel sleeves. Depending on the material I used she could wear it the entire long summer and then I would put her in a tutleneck and tights for the winter and she would continue wearing it come summer. I would let out the hem somewhere along the way. I have also made them quite often as shower gifts if the parents knew they were having a girl. I always included a turtleneck and tights, the right size or what I predicted the witer size would be, depending on the season the baby was born along with a gift card for a free alteration.
