Stitching Trim To A Round Yoke

A little review for adding trim to a round yoke.  Whether it is piping, rickrack, or the loop trim used here, the technique is the same.  Using a small ruler, measure the seam allowance from the raw edge of the fabric and with right sides together, pin the trim in place. Using a slightly longer stitch length of about 3.0 stitch the trim to the yoke.

When turning a corner, stop with the needle in the down position as you reach the marked seam allowance.  Lift the presser foot and turn the fabric and the trim, lower the presser foot and continue to stitch.

I was pleased with how the trim turned out!  This trim has been in my stash for several years and I am not sure if it is still available, but rickrack would be a nice substitute.

The Scrap Dress

Just enough fabric from a past project.
Barely enough trim tucked away waiting patiently to be used.
And just the right buttons from the button jar.

A sundress for the girl made totally out of leftovers.

Watch the next post for details and tips about the trim.

Happy Birthday Big Boy

Hard to believe that our boy is two years old today!  I am often asked how long I sew for the boys.  Most importantly is the fact that this is my grandson, and not my child, so I respect what the parents want.  So although I wasn't quite ready, I quit sewing for the boy several months ago.  Fortunately, I enjoy playing cars and trucks every bit as much as I enjoy sewing!

A Sunsuit For The Boys

Spring Sewing For The Boys

As you can see from the cover of the newest issue of Sew Beautiful Magazine, the theme is Spring flowers.  I must admit that creating a boy's outfit suitable for the issue totally had me stumped for a bit  until I started thinking about what would interest a little boy in a flower garden.  The answer.....a friendly grasshopper!

The plaid sunsuit with a white pique' yoke is made using pattern #120.

The design and instructions for the grasshopper is included in the magazine.

Bringing Home Baby Daygown

I like a traditional outfit for bringing the new baby home from the hospital.  A simple daygown with old fashioned tucks, delicate pima cotton fabric, and a touch of white embroidery and lace.

In a perfect world, I would have a few daygowns packed away waiting for the next baby shower.  Also, a daygown can be loving passed on to the next little one to become the family's "Bringing Home Baby" gown.

And a nice little bonus, don't know if you will need a daygown for a boy or girl? The lace around the neckband can be stitched on by hand after the gown is completed.
